When I was younger, I used to go fishing with my father and brothers. Do you know the feeling of hooking onto a big fish? I do. A least I thought it was a big fish. Too big for me to handle! Dad would come to my rescue and reel the fish in for me.
Just like my father would reel in the fish for me, we need to let God carry our burdens for us. God doesn’t want us to bear the load. It’s not a sign of weakness to give it over to God. I believe it’s a sign that we are aware of our human limitations. He’s the only one who can get us through the chaos and crises of this life.
Talk to God about your problems. As soon as you feel distressed, depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, confused, let Him know about it. Arrange a meeting with your “Wonderful Counselor” and discuss everything that’s on your heart (Isaiah 9:6).
I agree with the hymn writer when he penned these words:
“What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.”
We carry our stuff… our pain, sins, griefs, worries, and we don’t even have to! Let Him have your stuff. Cast all your stuff on Him. He cares so much about you, He wants to carry it for you (1 Peter 5:7)!
God bless you!
