Easter has always been one of my favourite times of the year. As a young girl it was the excitement of a new dress & a new pair of shoes I’d wear for the first time after the winter season had passed.
My favourite sound in the world was hearing the clicking of heels on the bare pavement ? Easter always gave me a hope & a joy that I really could never explain. I always stood in amazement as I gazed upon the cross that hung in the little Catholic Church on a hill in Portugal Cove. Trying to fathom that a person loved me so much that He would endure such brutality & lay down his life so that I could have eternal life with God. Almost too much for a little mind to comprehend; yet still amazed!
The cross still never ceases to amaze me. It’s my hope. It’s my reminder of how much I’m loved. It’s what I run to every time I fail – and that’s a lot! It’s my blessed assurance. It’s my promise. It’s what gives me joy, strength & peace everyday, but especially during these uncertain times. I placed this “old rugged” cross on our doorstep as a reminder that regardless of what’s happening globally, the message is the cross is timeless, unchanging & forever stands the test of time. ??
“On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross. The emblem of suffering and shame. And I love that old cross where the dearest and best. For a world of lost sinners was slain.”
