Glimpses of Heaven

"God is close to the broken hearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed" - Psalm 34:18 Losing someone you love is, simply put, heartbreaking. This week I found myself wanting to reach out to my dear friend Fay for some encouragement. I wanted to hear what...

Living Ready: A Tribute

A precious soul and dear friend, Fay, left this earth today a little sooner than expected. Nothing prepared me for the news as her husband, Glenn, and daughter, Gillian, shared the details with me over FaceTime. Up to that point, Fay was still on life support and the...

Beyond The Cover

We so often hear the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” I remember the first time I heard it, I was just a young school girl in the library with my class. If I’m not mistaken, it was my grade three class. We had this sweet, gentle librarian, Ms. Hearn, who always helped us pick out the best books and she knew the books we’d love. This one day while I sat on the floor scanning through the books, I overheard Ms. Hearn say to one of my classmates, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” Curiously, I wondered what she meant by that.

Give Thanks

Let’s be honest, 2020 hasn’t been what we hoped it would be when the clock struck midnight that last day in December. We all shouted “Happy New Year” while we hugged and kissed those who were there to ring in the new year. No bubbles, no restricted numbers, no lockdowns! Who would have imagined such a thing? I know my mind couldn’t even fathom the thought had someone pre-warned me! I think I would have taken a rain check on 2020! Or maybe skipped it altogether.

Everyone Has a Story

Everyone Has a Story

In 2012, my parents sold our family home in Portugal Cove. My Dad called me one day and asked me to come to the house to go through an old bin which he had found in the attic. We lived in that house for 22 years, so you can imagine the bins and bins of memories. As I lifted the cover off the bin, there was a shoebox full of old journals and letters. I couldn’t help but snicker a little. I remember Dad asking, “So, will I take all this to the dump?” I was quick to give a firm answer, “NO!”

“Why in the world would you want to keep that?” he asked. My response was very simple, “Dad, that’s a bin full of memories. It’s all the things that shaped me into the person I am today!” I fixed the lid back on the bin, and my Dad loaded it into my car. As I drove away I thought about that stuffed bin, and in that moment something occurred to me – that bin contains a story. My story.

We all have a story. Some, like mine, are tucked away into a shoebox where books and books of journals hold the depths of my heart.

The Greatest Love Of All

The Greatest Love Of All

In October of 1989, just two months into my first year of high school, I lost a classmate and new friend, Renee Hurley. I only met Renee that September after we were placed in the same 9th grade class at Gonzaga High. With my last name being Greeley, and her name being Hurley, she sat right behind me as we were placed in alphabetical order. I remember her sweet smile and her gentle spirit. She was kind, pleasant and caring.

Unsurpassable Peace

Unsurpassable Peace

Fear is a natural emotion we feel at times, especially when faced with uncertainty. Worry, on the other hand, is when we allow our minds to dwell on difficulties or trouble. It’s normal for us to experience fear in times of uncertainty or when the unknown shakes our lives. Fear, although a natural emotion, can be a powerful and damaging force. Fear causes us to act and react in ways that are contradictory to how God would want us to respond.

Hope Has a Name

Hope Has a Name

“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.”Psalm 62:5 This past week I read a quote from Dr. Haggie our health minister where he said, “Hope is a girl’s name, not a strategy.” I can only assume he said this as he addressed the people of our...

The Peace That Comes From The Cross Of Jesus

The Peace That Comes From The Cross Of Jesus

There will always be situations in our lives where we can allow FEAR to govern us.The alternative is that we can choose to walk in PEACE.I choose PEACE.I can choose peace because of what Jesus did on the cross.Isaiah 53:5 says “…the punishment that brought us peace...

The Cross Forever Speaks

The Cross Forever Speaks

Easter has always been one of my favourite times of the year. As a young girl it was the excitement of a new dress & a new pair of shoes I’d wear for the first time after the winter season had passed. My favourite sound in the world was hearing the clicking of...

Where Does Your Strength Come From?

Where Does Your Strength Come From?

This is an excellent and encouraging message from Dawn Alcock. Let these words sink into your hearts today. Where Does Your Strength Come From? We all know the story well…David and Goliath. David, a quiet shepherd boy. Goliath a prideful 9 foot giant. We all know that...

Protection and Provision

Protection and Provision

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying time at home with your families. For some of you, life hasn’t changed that much. For others, you have children out of school and you may be out of work. A while back, I talked about Moses’ mother… She placed her child in a...

Let Him Take Your Burden

Let Him Take Your Burden

We woke up one morning with a lot of snow in our driveway! Our snowblower wasn't working properly. It would have been a struggle to get rid of all that snow with just a shovel! Our neighbour came by with his giant tractor/snowblower and cleared out the driveway.I...

Crutch

Crutch

Some people call God a crutch. They think that only the weak need God. Only the unintelligent rely on a God that they can’t see or touch. Is a crutch a bad thing? Your leg is broken and you can’t walk. What do you do? You get a set of crutches so that you can get...
