Day 5 of 30

Let Him Take Your Burden

Scripture reading

Matthew 11:28–30 (KJV)

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

It’s not unusual in Newfoundland to wake up in the morning with a lot of snow in your driveway. I remember one occasion when our snowblower wasn’t working properly. It would have been a struggle to get rid of all that snow with just a shovel! Then our neighbor came by with his giant tractor and cleared out the driveway.

I think that’s a great illustration of the way God is… He is so good at clearing our paths… making rough places smooth and crooked places straight.

Some of us are still out there trying to do it all on our own with our little shovel. Let Him take your burden. Let Him bear the load. Let Him clear the way.

God bless you today.

Reflection

What burden are you trying to carry with your own “little shovel”? Take a moment to name it and bring it to Jesus.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for inviting me to come to You when I am weary. You know the burden I am carrying. Help me to bring it to You, receive Your help, and learn from You. Teach me to rest in Your care as I take the next step. Amen.

Your next step.
